ABOUT MARION HOSPICE
Marion Hospice is a 12-bed facility for the care of the terminally ill. It was opened in December 2005 to provide comprehensive end-of-life care in a home-like setting for individuals with less than three months life expectancy and to support their friends and families.
The first hospice on Vancouver’s Westside, Marion Hospice is located on the ninth floor of Windermere Care Centre, but is operated and staffed by Providence Health Care. Providence directs a multidisciplinary care team at the hospice that is made up of experienced physicians, registered nurses, care aides, counselors, music therapists and an on-site clinical coordinator.
Marion Hospice is named after Sister Marion MacDonald of the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception, who was among the first in Vancouver to initiate hospice care in a hospital setting. In the early 1970s, she designated palliative care beds at St. Vincent’s Hospital with a specialized team to care for terminally ill patients.
