The Cardiac Echo Lab sees patients with various abnormalities. We work closely with the University of British Columbia to offer training for residents and fellows and also with the British Columbia Institute of Technology for student placement. Due to the complexity of our patient population we require three years of scanning or related experience.

The echo lab performs approximately 10,000 studies per year including imaging from the esophagus and stress echo. We have three scanning rooms with state-of-the-art ultrasound machines.

Our lab specializes in:

• Imaging from the esophagus
• Stress echo
• Adult congenital heart disease
• Percutaneous heart valve placement
• Closure devices for atrial septal defects
• Left and right ventricular assist devices

The patient population in the echo lab consists of inpatients and out-patients.

• Pacific Adult Congenital Heart (PACH) clinic
• Heart Function Clinic
• Heart Transplant Clinic
• Renal Clinic
• Pre-cardiac Surgery Program
• Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
• Coronary Care Unit (CCU)

Hours of Operation
The echo lab is open Monday to Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. The Echo team consists of seven technologists, five echo cardiologists and two receptionists. Technologists and cardiologists are on-call during off hours and weekends.
